John Wilson for Crook Division
County Councillor Candidate for Crook

My name is John Wilson, and I am honoured to stand as a candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming County Council elections. As a resident of Stanley Crook for the past eight years, I have seen firsthand the challenges our community faces. I am married and have three young children who attend local schools, and I am deeply committed to making our area a better place for everyone.
I understand that many of you are disillusioned with politics and feel disengaged from the process. Years of neglect and broken promises have left many sceptical about the possibility of real change. However, I believe that together, we can turn things around and create a brighter future for our community.
My Background and Experience
I have spent my entire career within the Environmental, Arboricultural, and Forestry sectors, culminating in my current role working for the Woodland Trust as the Estate Manager for the North East of England. I have extensive experience in operational and project management and run a large Woodland Volunteer Group. I also sit on the Woodland Trust staff representation group (SRG) for the UK and Northern Ireland.
Addressing Community Concerns
As a father of three children, I am very concerned about the issues affecting Crook and the local area. These include:
- An increase in anti-social behaviour, especially in the evenings
- The effects of obvious drug use throughout the area
- Increased amounts of fly-tipping
- Dog fouling
- Vandalism and damage to our parks and community infrastructure
- Road traffic concerns, including speeding through villages and potholes
We need to come together as a community to address these issues. By working closely with the police, local authorities, and community networks, we can build a safer and stronger environment for everyone.
Mental Health and Community Support
We also need to address the mental health crisis affecting so many people. We need to increase community hubs and networks, offering support to people of all ages and backgrounds. By fostering a sense of belonging and providing access to essential services, we can help improve the well-being of our residents.
Environmental Stewardship
With my background in woodland management, I would like to increase and improve the woodland and recreational areas in Crook and the surrounding villages. Research shows that spending time outdoors is not only beneficial for mental health and well-being but also helps reduce pollution and increase carbon capture. I would reach out to all of the Crook Ward, including landowners, schools, and community groups, to facilitate this work.
Your Voice Matters
If I am elected, together we can identify what is needed for our town and surrounding area and work towards delivering those goals. I work quickly and effectively and enjoy getting the job done. I would relish the challenge of helping to make our community a better place for everyone. I believe that all residents have the right to live in villages and towns which they are proud of, where they feel safe, and where they can thrive.
Thank you for your support.
