Michael Beeforth for Crook Ward
County Councillor Candidate for Crook Ward

My name is Michael Beeforth, I have dedicated my career and volunteer efforts to support people across all areas of life in our local community of Crook.
As a primary school teacher with over five years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of helping young people through their emotional, social and educational development, assisting in helping them to form strong foundations for their futures.
Beyond the classroom, I volunteer with Samaritans, I believe mental health is a crucial issue that touches us all. By offering an empathetic and impartial listening ear to those facing incredible hardship, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the struggles people experience right here in Crook.
Coming from a family with a background in social care, I’ve seen first hand the incredible work social care professionals in County Durham do, as well as the immense pressures they face. I understand the challenges of those who rely on these essential services, which are often stretched too thin due to funding cuts.
I’m passionate about addressing issues that directly affect our town. I believe the rise in antisocial behaviour in Crook is a symptom of the chronic underfunding of youth services and initiatives. When we fail to invest in our young people, we not only limit their potential but also weaken the fabric of our community. This must change.
My goal is to create more opportunities for young people and families in Crook, ensuring they have the support, resources, and mental health services they need to flourish. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate Crook for everyone.
