I am a seasoned professional with a rich background in telecommunications and public service. My journey began at Woodham Comprehensive School in Newton Aycliffe, one of the best schools in County Durham. After graduating in 1975, I embarked on a career in the telecommunications industry, working for GEC Telecommunications, British Telecom, and Durham Constabulary, where I retired as a senior manager. My commitment to service extended to the Territorial Army, where I served for nearly 22 years, retiring as a Captain. I hold a City and Guilds Institute Graduateship in Leadership and Management (Honours degree) and currently direct a small communications company specializing in bringing internet access to remote areas.

Living and working in Teesdale for most of my career, I have supported the community in various ways. My passion for the countryside and its way of life drives my commitment to ensuring its preservation for future generations. If elected, I will advocate for affordable housing, sensitive development, infrastructure improvements, tourism, and enhanced transport links to benefit Teesdale.

My dedication to voluntary work is evident through my roles as Stage Manager for Bishop Auckland Operatic Society, Chair of the EDDY Scheme, organizer of music festivals at Langdon Beck, and treasurer of the Woodland Community Group. I have also served as a Parish councillor and Parish Clerk in Woodland.

I recently joined the Labour Party, believing in its potential to make a significant impact on our country. Community service is a core value for me, inspired by the strong community spirit of the North East’s farming, coal, and heavy engineering industries. I am confident that the Labour Party can lead Durham County Council to new heights, fostering economic growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

I am committed to ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential, supported by a robust social network from early development through higher education. Together, we can create a prosperous and inclusive future for County Durham.
